FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY – Circa 1930’s
Many of the framed mottos I offer were published between WWI and throughout the 1920s simply because the finest works were created at that time and the Great Depression had not affected the greeting card industry.
FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY is one of the exceptions. Its design screams the early 1930s and the hand-written on the back is a note is dated. “To Lucille From Lydian and Russell March 19, 1932”
The motto is printed with black ink creating an outline for watercolor to be painted. Even opaque silver was painted by hand, not an easy task. The entire framed motto is original which includes the frame, glass backing, and its small brass hanger.
FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY is small, only measuring 5 5/8” x 6″. Its size allows the recipient to hang it in a place where it can be read and reread. Framed mottos are forever gifts.
